The renowned Shanghai International Literary Festival is China’s leading English-language literary event.

​For the past 16 years, many of the world’s greatest writers and thinkers have dialogued with enthralled readers along Shanghai’s famous waterfront ‘Bund’.

Our previous trips in 2018 and 2019 were fully escorted by Mandarin-speaking and literature-buff Margie Burke whose five+ years of residencies in Shanghai span pre and post development periods. Local English-speaking guides accompanied us on most excursions to provide additional inside knowledge, guidance and expertise.

To whet your appetite for 2021...
In 2018 and 2019 we toured Shanghai 'behind the scenes' with a finely-tuned itinerary exploring art spaces, fabric and fashion markets, museums, temples and hidden treasures of Shanghai and China. We also went by high speed rail to the renowned water-town of Suzhou, to enjoy picturesque UNESCO World Heritage classical gardens and sites that have inspired writers and artists for over 2000 years.

Our tour also included a four day literary festival pass, a selection of literary lunches and dinners with guest speakers, home-style northern dumpling lunch with Margie’s ‘Shanghai’ family and a ​Jazz performance at the original Sassoon-built Peace Hotel!!
